You can display the document as a link that will open in a new browser tab. To do that, you need to set the custom.properties setting described here:forum.appian.com/.../Post-Install_Configurations.html

Then, you can a!safeLink to create a link where the URI is rule!APN_getDocUrl(ri!document) & "?inline=true"

That last piece is what tells Appian to open the document in a new tab rather than download it.

I'm not aware of any alternatives, but maybe other folks have ideas.

One thing I should have pointed out - that custom.properties setting only allows for links to open in a new tab, it does not change default behavior. Links without '?inline=true' added to the URL will continue to behave as they do before the custom.properties change.

This setting cannot be changed in Appian Cloud instances unfortunately.
