Is it possible and/or has anyone attempted creating a custom smart service that will update pp!initiator for a specific process instance? We have problems all too often with request initiator accounts becoming disabled (when they leave the company), which causes enough errors in the process where it has to be cancelled and re-created. Reactivating the disabled account does not bring the request back to life, and having users cancel processes and re-create under an active account is not a very good user experience either..

Because of this reason it is best practice to never assign to an individual, node assignments should always be to groups

No problem. Yes the issue involves functions and expressions running under the intiator context, even if pp!initiator isn't involved in a form (expressions or assignment) we typically receive "Work Item Cancelled" errors and the form is not recoverable, the entire process must be re-created.

I remember i tried to create plugin to update the initiator of the process few years ago. but even JAVA API was also not able to update the pp!initiator.
