Is there a way to detect if the user is accessing the site via a desktop browser

Is there a way to detect if the user is accessing the site via a desktop browser vs. a mobile browser (not the app)? Either in a process model or in the SAIL interface?

The goal is to display two different objects depending on which browser is viewing the page.
