Plugins using proprietary technology

Question

Does anyone have experience developing a plugin using proprietary technology? Any things we should know about, lookout for? We might be looking at developing a custom plugin for the conversion of DOCX to PDF with a library such as Aspose or docx4j.

I built a plugin do to exactly what you are aiming for using www.qoppa.com/.../ which included tables and images with near perfect results. License costs apply but as with most things you get what you pay for and the integration and coding was very simple.
