What is the best way in Appian 7.9 or upward versions to export process data to

What is the best way in Appian 7.9 or upward versions to export process data to a database before it gets archived? The archival for most processes falls in the default range –‘7 days’ and there are requirements across multiple customer groups to have BAM metrics available for long term reporting – mainly to gauge trends. Most designs will capture Process metrics like the Process Name, Process Id, Start Date, Completion Date etc. What is the general practice being followed for capturing task metrics for long term reporting? Is the task metric saved to database each time there is a task initiation/completion? Any recommended best practices? Any know Pitfalls?
