For process backed records, and searching - how does this searching actually wor

For process backed records, and searching - how does this searching actually work? what are the limitations?
I can't seem to make head nor tail of why I can't get results to any of my searches - even though the values are in pvs and CDTs

ok - I'm getting a bit of luck now by creating a pv called processKeywords - and at the end of my input tasks collating the keywords (such as display names for users, child cdt and lists) as a big long text string - then using a hidden grid column.
