Is there anything that can be used in process to convert a PDF to PDF/A format. We generate a PDF based on user data entered on forms, but our records management software requires PDF/A format in order to properly index the file and allow the 'mapped' fields to be searchable.

Scott, there are probably Java libraries that have this functionality. You could then wrap one such library into your own Appian plugin.
