I can't seem to use the user() function in a portal report?
=user(pp!initiator,"customField1")
Should this be supported?

@jarrods Unfortunately few categories of functions (namely Evaluation Functions, Looping Functions and Scripting Functions) aren't available for portal reports. And fn!user() is one among them. Documentation at https://forum.appian.com/suite/help/16.1/Appian_Functions.html even indicates a text namely 'not available for process reports or events' under such category of functions.
I am not aware of a work around that could populate the column in portal report. I would leave this to other practitioners to shed light on this if it is possible.
And if your intention is to display the portal report contents in SAIL, you could populate the column in SAIL interface by using a rule or function when you surface the data in SAIL after making a query to analytics.
