I have a question regarding custom plug-in.

Let's say that an external system is calling a servlet that is deployed on Appian. Now, in case Appian goes down, what response the external system will receive when it will try to call that servlet?

You will get one of the Http error codes. I have not tried it but I think 404. Check out the link if you need more codes. www.tutorialspoint.com/.../servlets-http-status-codes.htm
