Can Channels or Portlets be included in an external portal? If we have an existing portal and we want to add "certain" channels to that portal, is it possible?...

There is no way to show Appian channels or portlets in an external portal. The one exception is an Appian report, as this can be displayed within sharepoint. See the following documentation:
