Can a social task be started/assigned through a process model?

The use case is that I want to assign a task to a user as a reminder and not impact the completion of the process. I know there are several workarounds to accomplish this, just curious if this can be done using social tasks....

Social Tasks are not meant to be part of the process and can only be assigned and completed through the Worksocial Interface.
