Function similar to HTTP File Download smart service could be called directly on UI

HTTP File Download smart service helps us to call a HTTP/ HTTPS service and store the document in Appian where service response returns document contents. This smart service could be used in process model.
However it leads to poor user journey as user has to start a action/ related action (which calls process model) which will call the service and store the service response as document in Appian repository.
Then user will be navigated to a screen where downloadlink SAIL component will help them to click the link and download the document.
means user has to navigate to different screens and click multiple times before downloading the document.
Is there any functions similar to this smart service which could be called directly on UI?

Depending on your requirements for interacting with the web service, you may be able to use one of the HTTP connector functions, eg a!httpQuery(). See the docs for more info:
forum.appian.com/.../Connector_Functions.html
Note that downloading the document directly in the interface may cause slowness if the document is large, which can also impact user experience.
If the document URL is already known, you could also just provide a direct link to the document, rather than downloading it into Appian first.
