Suitable tool for Performance testing of Appian

I'm currently exploring a suitable tool for Performance testing of Appian. Our installation version is 16.2 and no plans to upgrade for now.

Based on the knowledge gathered so far, I figured out that due to GWT version used in 16.2, Loadrunner doesn't work well with Appian. So I'm looking at either plain Jmeter http or Jmeter with groovy etc.

Any prior experience and inputs will be very useful.
