The above call seems to work fine in the existing code but when using similar lines I try to set type as
type!{namespace}Request2$anonymous
What am i missing?

Generally,If CDT Name is defined using element tag as below
' <xsd:element name="Request2">
<xsd:complexType> .... </xsd:complexType>
<xsd:element> '
then "type!" function returns error. Download xsd's for your cdts and make sure the CDTName is not defined using xsd:element tag
