Receiving Email without pop3, imap or imaps

For receiving email to start a process or to use a receive message node, we need to have Appian configured to do that.
In the email server configuration the storeProtocol acceptable values are pop3, imap, or imaps as per the documentation
forum.appian.com/.../Mail_Server_Setup.html.
What if pop3, imap or imaps is not configured for the email server and only connectivity methods are mapi and web acess(https)?
How the configuration should be done in this case?

My recommendation is to explore Appian Web APIs. It provides much more control and sophistication than starting a process via email. Only thing to consider is authentication to invoke Web API.
