Storing contents of Knowledge Center outside of Appian

Hi Team,

I am new to Appian and currently researching how can we store some documents collected from user uploads outside of Appian, say on a shared location on a company server. I tried reading the documentation for Integrations and Connected Systems, and followed related links, however I am still not sure I understand how can this be achieved. Any help and tips will be appreciated.

The first step is to figure out where to store these documents. 
 The second step will be to see if establishing a connect to that tool/platform is possible, if yes, build a connection using a connected system and integration. 
 The third step will be to send the documents via the integration you created.
