Dear all,
I'm studying for Appian Certified Analyst and I'm having some difficulties to understand different responsabilities between Product Owner and Business analyst. I'm studying on Online course ("Initiate and Buil for Appian analyst") and Appian Community documentation and I understood that Product Owner is responsible for creating the product blacklog and prioritaziong user stories in the product backlog. Also the Product Owner represent the needs of the business. Instead the Business Analyst has the responsbailities to create user stories, create personas, "HELP product owner to convert the needs of the business into actionable blacklog items". But If I try to answer to some Test Question in Online Appian Courses I found that "Prioritizing the backlog" is one of responsibilities of the business analyst in the Initiate phase. Can you please help me to understand this? thanks a lot.

The confusion is understandable! The Product Owner owns the final decision on backlog priorities, while the Business Analyst actively helps with prioritization without having the final say. In Initiate phase, both roles collaborate on prioritization, so when your test lists "prioritizing the backlog" as a BA responsibility, it means the BA participates in the prioritization process, not that they control it. The PO decides, the BA assists, but both are involved in the activity.
Thanks a lot for your reply. I'm agree with you and I undestood what you are saying that "BA participates in the prioritization process.. the BA assists". Anyway n the test, Quiz is talking about "BA responsbaility/accountability" but that resposansabilities (prioritizing the backlog) should be in charge of just one person and it should be the Product Owner and not the BA.
You are correct! Product Owner is responsible for prioritizing the backlog, not the BA. If you found some discrepancy in the Academy Course Content/Tests you can share your feedback at the end of the course as well as drop email at academyonline@appian.com for them to review.
