Appian Community and Appian Academy are being upgraded. From July 24–August 3, the Appian Community will be in read-only mode. During this time, the site will be read-only and user registration will be disabled. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but a more secure, stable, and performant Community experience is coming soon!
The new Appian Community launches August 3, followed by Appian Academy on August 7. During the migration, Appian Community Edition, Appian Academy, Documentation, Certifications, Instructor-led Customer Training, Partner Sales Training & Accreditation, and Forum (for Appian Partners and Customers only) will remain available.
Hi everyone,
I am working on an Appian Portal and I have noticed that a!iconNewsEvent() and a!iconIndicator() icon functions are not supported in Portals.
So I was just wondering if those functions are going to be supported in a future update or if there is a specific reason for them to be unsupported?

Hey leonj0003. Those functions are not supported directly in a portal at this time since they require connected to the Appian document service to work. As a workaround you could call these functions in a web API and use an integration to retrieve the document ID to display in an image component (e.g. tointeger(a!iconIndicator("COPY"))).
I am curious though, is there a use case you have where these functions are offering something that isn't provided by rich text icons?
