I was reading the section "How The Data Flows Together" in the document, Working with Data in Process, and understood the link between the process variable, node input and the interface input when we want to collect data from the user via the interface, save it into the process variable and use it later in the process.
However, I was struggling with how this works with a process start form. In the start node, there is no Data tab to define the node input. It actually took me quite a while (like hours later!) to realize that in order to achieve the same result as above, I would have to enable the Parameter checkbox when defining the process variables.
In the document, Configuring Process Variables, under the section "Creating A Process Variable", the definition is as follows.
Questions
1. Does the part highlighted in yellow imply that input node is created?
2. The part highlighted in green implies that it does not apply to CDT. However, I defined a boolean and CDT in the same way and they both worked.

1. Yes. When you create a start form using process model, parameter variables will be mapped to the rule inputs.
2. For complex and custom data type its also creating respective rule inputs. It might be applicable for old versions
