When you navigate to the 'Monitoring' tab in Appian Designer what you see there is effectively the formatted output of a Process Report mapped to a specific User Interface to make the report's content meaningful.
When you create your own process report you are looking to retrieve information about process instances in your environment so that you can display and/or use that information to manage those instances in whatever way meets your business needs.
