I have a process model with viewer/admin security defined as two groups that is called as a sub of another process model. When a user, who is a member of the viewer group initiates the parent process they get a "The user does not have privilege to the process that the activity attempted to start". When I run the parent process as an administrator user and view security for the sub process instance the only user with permission is the original designer of the first version of the process model. When I republish the offending sub process it corrects the issue.
This has only occurred in our dev environment, everything is working correctly in other environments. Has anyone experience this issue before, please?

It sounds like you have "Run as whoever designed the process model" selected in the assignment. You should be able to update this to match your other environments to solve the issue.

I checked and in both cases the subs were "Run as whoever started the process". Republishing the offending subs (without changing any settings at all) resolved the problem and the viewer group user was able to run the parent process successfully.
The parent and subs already belong to an application running fine in both test and live environments. I think that this may just have been a dev environment issue.
