KB-1249 Downloading a file with special characters or non-Latin characters from Internet Explorer changes the filename

Symptoms

In Internet Explorer, when downloading a file containing special characters, the file downloads with a different name than present in Appian:

Do you want to save =_UTF-8_XXXXXXXXXX=_= from <website>?

Cause

This issue has been reported to the Appian product team as AN-74776 to find a workaround for the Internet Explorer bug.

It is important to note that while this issue has been reported to the Appian product team, this is an issue with the way that Internet Explorer handles file downloads and is not specific to the Appian platform. This issue does not occur in Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox.

Action

Use a different web browser or remove the special characters and non-Latin characters from the filename.

Affected Versions

This article applies to all versions of Appian using Internet Explorer as a web browser.
