I wonder if anyone else has seen this. I think it is an Appian Bug. In

It says that
“The option to reject a task is only displayed under the following conditions:
• The application designer must have given you sufficient privileges to reject the task.
• The task is a SAIL task.
• You must have already accepted the task.
• The task must be assigned to a group or more than one user.
• You are not the only assignee who hasn't yet rejected the task.”
The last condition does not hold if the task is assigned to a group. This eventually results into tasks left hanging under a group with no suitable members.
The scenario we have in details is the following
a) A task is assigned to a group with two users.
b) The first user accepts the task
c) The first user correctly has the option to reject the task
d) The first user rejects the task, the task is returned to the group.

PS: I think your described scenario is working as designed, though. If a user rejects the task. It's not in the task list anymore.
