I'm experiencing an error where smart services I attempt to drag onto the Process Modeler canvas won't "stick". I'm using IE 11 and have added my site to compatibility mode. Any suggestions?

Please clear the cache and restart the browser. Also, have you tried it without compatability mode enabled?

I've seen this happen with bad installs as well. Is this an on local, on-premise, or cloud install?

This particular installation is local, but I've experienced this behavior now across 3 separate installations (not all on my local)

I've only seen it on local installs. Usually it's due to a missing or improper config. Try reviewing your configuration settings, it can be a lot of them.

Try dragging the smart service to extreme top right or top left corner of the canvas. If it sticks the problem is with zoom level of the browser. To resolve that, you can try zooming in after login and then launch the process modeler. Following these steps has resolved this issue for me.

Also try hitting Ctrl+0 to reset your browser zoom level as this can also be a cause

Can I check which smart service it is ?
Is it any OOB one or the custom smart service?
If there other suggested alternatives by above practioners didn't work - then this problem often occur when any of the 2 smart services using the same class are deployed on the system.
Although they show up in the palatte however they don't drag into canvas.

Hi Evanr, I also faced that problem many time. It might be the server issue. But you can continue your work by dragging smart service below or above the smart services that are present in your process modeler..If no smart service present then you can drag it to below start node.

rishirajk and tim.clarke's solution were correct--it was the zoom level of the browser. Thanks all!
