ERROR:Work item cancelled (Data Outputs) in node activity

Hi,
We are receiving the below error in the subprocess.
ERROR:Work item cancelled (Data Outputs) and Recommended Action: Check the expression including any function requirements and resume.
Any suggestion on how we can handle/resolve this error in the process model/instance level?
Thank you!

We see this when initiator accounts have been deactivated as well, switching to process designer for unattended node assignment is the trick.

Who is the initiator for the failed node ? If it's a basic user, try to run the node again with system administrator user account.
Do check the function being used if it has any restrictions on who can execute the function.

Has anyone found a resolution to this issue? For some reason, the process will break on a script task when I debug through the Process Modeler. However, when I run it from the Designer Console it will run just fine.
The assignment of the script task is set to "Run as whoever designed this process model".
