#Process Upgrade.
Hi,
We are doing the process upgrade of one of our process.
While doing so, we came across one issue which stalls the process upgrade. The problem is explained below.

Our Target Process Model (to which all versions needs to be upgrade) has a pv referring to a CDT "bpa_buyer_mapping". This CDT has been modified over the time - some new fields are added to it and some of its existing fields' data type have been changed.
All running process instances(which needs to be upgrade) are using this pv and referring to the older version of aforesaid CDT - "bpa_buyer_mapping^1" As a result when we are trying to upgrade these instances to our target process model it returns UNSUCCESSFUL UPGRADE with error "INCOMPATIBLE_PVs".
We checked the Process Upgrade Documentation to find the problem and found this above mentioned issue as a technical limitation of process upgrade. Documentation says that in this particular case the process will not upgra...

This is what mentioned in documentation:
"if the target model has a PV (`pv!person`) of type Person^2 and the source model has the same PV but of type Person, the process will not upgrade because the CDT types are different."

Ideally process upgrade should merge all changes that have been done in the target process. Can anyone please let us know a workable solution for this ?

You can create a new pv with the new version of the cdt. Update all nodes that reference the old pv to the new pv. Then add a one time script task node to map the values from the old pv to the new pv.

Don't you think this will still fail when original pv in target model points to latest cdt version .While upgrading since types are different in source model and target model, it fails. Can you elaborate more ?
