Line chart with null data point not working

Question

The documentation for a!lineChartField() describes that if we pass null as data value, then that point will not plotted and we will get a broken line (see the last example in https://docs.appian.com/suite/help/17.1/Line_Chart_Component.html ). This doesn't seem to be working for me. The null values are getting plotted as 0 for me. I have attached the screenshot where I copy pasted the code from the example along with the output graph. 
 Has anyone experienced this issue before? Is there any work around for this?

It appears that prior to 17.1, null data points would be charted as 0 . After that, nulls began charting as expected. 
 I assume you're using a 2016 Appian release, which is why your results are different from others.

I would suggest that this is expected then. The 17.1 interface designer view renders like the pre-17 versions, including bugs, back-end logic, etc.
