Instead of query rule, GO with Query Entity and fetch the column content you want to fetch as it will enhance the performance of your application.
Suppose you have a table{categoriesOfFood, foodId}, write a expression rule to query Db using query entity.
and than use the expression rule in the choiceValues parameter of the a!dropDown component
