emails are appearing in the appian inbox but not in Appian... what might be the

Depends a bit on what you try to do ;-)
Looks like you want to have Appian fetch mail from an account and run a process for each incoming mail. What are the logfiles saying? Do you have access to the logfiles of the mailserver?
