SAIL editable grids.
There is a general limit to how much data you can fit on a SAIL form due to the restricted width of the tempo interface. With editable grids the number of columns you can have is quite limiting and the are limited options for formatting of the text. When a user has a lower screen resolution they are reporting that all the text in the columns goes vertical which is quite a poor user experience.
So I can see several option
1. Remove data. - I have already tried to do this already but the users need the information to identify the correct line.
2. Use a link in the grid to show more information below the grid and take out the additional information from the columns. This will work but it isn't a great user experience when you are doing this for 25 rows in a table and the scrolling up and down to view the information.
So I guess my questions are:
1. Are there any suggestions to how we can manage this better.
2. Are there any plans...

... to allow scrollable grids or something to help with this?

That looks like an incredibly small resolution! Have you considered concatenating some of the data to reduce the number of column headers? That might get you a little more space. I guess you've already reduced the number of column to only that which is required to identify the correct row?

You probably want to do a master detail grid. There's a SAIL recipe that explains how to do it:

So the resolution we are looking at is 1024x768 which ends up resulting in the error. Concatenating may help I don't think to the extent that it will prevent the issue. The master grid Idea is what I was referring to in option 2 but as I outline here if you 25 rows on a page constantly scrolling up and down a form isn't great for users.

How about, instead of a grid, you use a repeating section - essentially a section per item containing the details for an item? It's not the most elegant solution but it would allow more of a vertical-type layout which may fit the resolution better. You could combine it with an in-page search filter, say on name and/or description?

So I have identified if I set all the fields to narrow it then enables scrolling which is better.

With narrow set for all fields, does the grid look any good on a larger resolution? It might be worth having at least one set to distribute?

It is much better!! It stops doing the vertical text and expands out of the restricted view

Good to know, I'll have to remember that! Having said that, I haven't seen a 1024x768 screen resolution for about ten years! :)
