Is it possible to display a required field (red asterisk) even if the field has a validationGroup parameter?

Is it possible to display a required field (red asterisk) even if the field has a validationGroup parameter? I have noticed for any fields which I have a validationGroup parameter defined, I am only able to display that the field is required after the submit button is clicked. The validationGroup/validation works successfully, however, I just would like to know if I can display the red asterisk by default (prior to clicking submit).

I don't believe that it's possible. However maybe an in-form validation that doesn't block submission would suit your needs?

thanks for your response. Blocking submission is exactly what I need and the validationGroup appears to be functioning how I need it to. I can add the asterisk manually to the label but this just seems like a bug/oversight by Appian. Unless I am missing something which is highly possible. :)

Another suggestion would be to have a conditional in the required field, and not have the field in a validation group.
