Behavior of a!pickerFieldRecords function

I'm trying to use the new a!pickerFieldRecords function. It is my understanding that the "search" is done on the Record Title which is set in the Record Type. I'm using an expression rule to set the title, and the search is not working. If I change the Record Title to use local rf! properties, then it works.

Is this the intended behavior? Am I able to get this to work, while still using an expression to set the title?

Yes, it's an intended behavior. In order to overcome this, either make the title consist of desired text you are looking for to search in a field or you may opt for an unofficial work around specified in the above mentioned links.
