Can we update database records through rules (user interface)? Or it has to been done through Process Model.

Check out the a!writeToDataStoreEntity() expression function, this should help.

Are you asking can you update DB records solely through an UI or does updating DB records require a process model?

@chuliangc In that case, the link that @jacobc provided helps, but the short answer is yes. You "usually" have to use a process model (in some way) to update DB records.

Adding to above comment we also have Write to Multiple Data Store Entities I.e (a!writetomultipledatastoreentity() ) writes multiple CDT values to multiple entities you can find more detailed info from this link

Adding to above comments, also you can create a process model and attach Write to Data Store Entity Smart Service having the process variable as parameterized, and from Interface, use a!startProcess() function to call Process model along with passing the value for parameters, this can also do your job.

Write to DS is a WEB API that can be triggered externally OR in a saveInto of a SAIL form. Please keep that in mind. If you are planning to use Appian as a Pure UI to update your DB, you will be better off creating a simple process. Alternatively, follow the best practice and use the Database Client to do this.
