Remove "square" from around an image

I have created some icons that we use in a grid. I have gone into Photoshop and removed the backgrounds and saved as transparent PNG. However, in a grid, when you hover over one of these icons the row turns blue and you can then see the edge boundaries of the image. Any way to get rid of that?

The only way I know of is to override the size as "Icon" instead of the default. This causes them to show up approximately "favIcon" sized, but with no border anyway.
