KB-1653 How to find the number of transactions left to replay for an Appian Engine in the event of an unexpected shutdown

Purpose

Appian engines will replay transactions in an event of an unexpected shutdown. When this occurs, the engine startup time will depend on the number of transactions it has to replay. A large number of transactions can delay the engine start-up time.

This article outlines the following:

  • How to find the number of transactions left to replay
  • How to find how much time will it take for the Appian engines to boot up

Instructions

On the server which hosts the Appian Engines, navigate to <APPIAN_HOME>\logs\service_manager.log and search for log entries of the following type which have details on the engine name, number of transactions to replay and the approximate time this will take:

[KomodoEventBus-50] INFO  com.appian.komodo.engine.status.ReplayStateProvider - download-stats 15 of 142 transactions replayed (10%). Approximately 00:57 remaining.
