KB-1921 Windows service dies unexpectedly when running a distributed/single server installation

Symptoms

When attempting to start Appian as a Windows service, the Windows service may unexpectedly die while Appian services and Service Manager show a running status.

This could occur in the following scenarios:

  1. When running a distributed installation of Appian with one server containing all components of Appian and the other server containing only Service Manager and additional execution and analytics engines.
  2. When running a single server installation of Appian with all components on a single server.

Cause 

This a known issue with how the Windows service is determining that the service has stopped. From Service Manager's perspective, there are no issues.

This issue has been reported to the Appian Product Team. The reference number for this issue is AN-113199.

Action

After stopping the application server, search server, and data server, stop the Appian services from command line using the Starting and Stopping Appian documentation.

Affected Versions

This article applies to Appian 17.3 and later.
