KB-2045 "The file null could not be uploaded" error thrown when trying to upload a file

This issue has been resolved in an Appian hotfix/new Appian version. Please apply the latest hotfix to your Appian installation or upgrade to the latest version of Appian.

Symptoms

When attempting to upload a file, an error box in the UI will appear with the following message: "The file null could not be uploaded. Please try uploading it again."

The following error will also appear in the application server log:

ERROR com.appiancorp.content.ExtendedContentServiceJavaImpl - Couldn't create the deactivated files with names: {XXXXXXX}
com.appiancorp.suiteapi.common.exceptions.StorageLimitException: No more space available

Cause

The user attempting the upload has reached their file upload limit. While user storage space quotas were deprecated in 17.3, the content engine is still enforcing the quota. Any users who have reached their storage quota will be prevented from uploading more files.

Action

19.1 and later

Apply the latest hotfix.

18.4 and earlier

Upgrade to Appian version 19.1 or later.
