KB-1003 Users are unable to execute Appian engine scripts

Symptoms

The following scripts immediately hang when attempting to run:

• checkengine.sh
• start-suite.sh
• stop-suite.sh
• cleanup.sh
• checkpoint-suite.sh

Cause

The operating system's hosts file contains illegal syntax preventing further execution of the scripts.

Action

Check the hosts file for any of the following issues:

• Invalid characters in the file.
• Invalid IP addresses are present.
• Hostnames are incorrectly typed.
• Unmarked comment sections.

Affected Versions

This article applies to all versions of Appian.
