The purpose of this article is to provide answers to common questions regarding Appian's removal of support for Internet Explorer (IE).

Table of Contents:

When is Appian removing support for IE11?

As of 22.4 GA (November 11, 2022), IE11 will not be supported by any Appian version per our documentation: "Appian does not support browsers that are no longer supported by their vendor."

Microsoft stated they will stop supporting IE11 on Windows 10 on June 15, 2022.  IE11 may continue to work on older versions of Windows, but Windows 7 and 8.1 will no longer be supported by Microsoft as of January 2023. Since 22.4 is the latest release before Microsoft stops supporting IE11 on any platform, we will also be dropping support at that time.

Can users see legacy forms created with Application Portal Forms Designer when they receive Appian tasks?

Yes, users will still be able to see legacy forms created with the Application Portal Forms Designer in supported browsers

How do I enable IE11-compatibility mode with Microsoft Edge?

As IE11-compatibility mode is a Microsoft Edge feature that is enabled on the browser level, please see Microsoft's documentation for more information.

Will Microsoft Edge in IE-compatibility mode still work for editing legacy forms in Application Portal Forms Designer?

Yes, customers that need to use the Legacy Portals Designer can use Microsoft Edge in IE11-compatibility mode to access Appian Portal Forms Designer.

Since we can no longer open Application Portal Forms Designer on IE11, how can we edit our legacy forms through the Appian Process Modeler?

To access Appian Forms Designer within a process model, see the following steps:

  1. Enable IE-compatibility mode on your Microsoft Edge browser
  2. Right-click on the process model you want to open
  3. Click "Open link in new Internet Explorer mode tab"

Does Appian still support Application Portal and non-SAIL Forms?

Per our documentation, Application Portal and non-SAIL forms will continue to be supported by Appian. However, these features will only work and be supported in IE-compatibility mode on Microsoft Edge. Other functionalities of the product will no longer be supported in IE11.

What features will be supported once Appian removes support for IE11?

Please see our documentation for a list of what is currently supported for each browser type.
