KB-1078 "The supplied feed entry [X] is not accessible" error thrown when using Post Comment to Feed Entry smart service

Symptoms

When using the Post Comment to Feed Entry node in a process model with a specific author, the node fails and the following error is shown in the application server log and as an alert in Appian:

An error occurred while trying to post a comment or hazard to the feed (entry id: [X]). Details: The supplied feed entry [X] is not accessible (APNX-1-4181-100)

Ultimately, no comment is made for that event in News.

Cause

The author of the comment does not have access to the feed entry.

If using the Post Event to Feed node to create the post used in the Post Comment to Feed Entry node, the Post Comment to Feed Entry node will fail for the user set as the author of the comment node if both of the following criteria are satisfied:

  • The user configured to run the Post Event to Feed node is different from the author of the comment.
  • The author of the comment is neither a viewer nor an author of the original feed entry.

If no author is defined for the Post Event to Feed node, it will default to the user assigned to that node. If the user is neither an author nor a viewer of that node, they will not have access to that event, thus the node will fail.

Action

Either the author of the comment does not have access to the feed entry, or an error occurred while retrieving the news feed entry from the Appian Data Source.

As a first step, attempt to restart the failed node. If this resolves the issue, it was likely caused by a short-term issue connecting to or reading from the Appian Data Source.

Otherwise, if using both the Post Event to Feed node and the Post Comment to Feed Entry node in a process model, ensure that the author of the comment node is a viewer or an author of the event node.

Affected Versions

This article applies to all versions of Appian.
