KB-2260 How to export application packages without missing precedents

Purpose

When troubleshooting design issues, Appian Support may request an export of the affected object(s). To ensure that issues can be thoroughly tested and recreated, it is necessary for Appian Support to be able to successfully import such packages, but this is prevented by objects that are missing precedents. This article details steps to create comprehensive application exports to assist with troubleshooting.

Instructions

To export a package with no missing precedents, perform the following steps:

  1. Log into Appian and go to Appian Designer.
  2. Navigate to the application and then select the objects of interest. Click ADD TO PACKAGE.
  3. A prompt to create a new package will appear. After filling in the details for the new package, click ADD to add the objects to the new package.
  4. View all packages by clicking VIEW PACKAGES on the top right hand side of the Application toolbar.
  5. Select the newly created package to see a view of all of its objects.
  6. Click the Settings gear icon in the top right-hand side of Designer, then select Missing Precedents from the drop-down menu.
  7. If Appian detects missing precedents, a message box of the following format will appear:
  8. Click the Add all to package and then click CHECK AGAIN
  9. Repeat steps 7 and 8 until no further missing precedents are detected.
  10. Close out of the Missing Precedents view.
  11. In the tab on the right-hand side of the package view, scroll down to the PLUG-INS section, then select the Manage Plug-ins gear icon.
  12. In the window that pops up, select View plug-ins referenced by objects in this application.
  13. Select all of the plug-ins that appear, click ADD TO PACKAGE, then close.
  14. Click the EXPORT PACKAGE button and then hit EXPORT.
  15. Click DOWNLOAD PACKAGE.
