KB-1414 Dynatrace interfering with Appian components

Symptoms

External monitoring agents, which include but are not limited to Dynatrace, AppDynamics, and New Relic, can introduce unexpected behavior in Appian such as those listed below:

  • Package import or inspection not responding.
  • Generic errors thrown when clicking on Alerts, Process History, or Process Details in /designer.
  • File upload in Admin Console not working.
  • Tempo not loading properly.

This issue can present itself in many different ways, and the above examples do not cover all possible symptoms.

In some cases, the issue will first occur after an upgrade, even if the environment was working with the external monitoring agent prior to the upgrade.

Cause

These agents automatically inject JavaScript into the Appian HTML code, which can result in unexpected behavior in Appian.

Action

  1. Disable the external monitoring agent.
  2. Clear the application server cache per KB-1232.

If you are unable to resolve the error using the above steps, please create a ticket with Appian Technical Support for further investigation.
