KB-1776 HTTP 504 error received when accessing the business database in Appian Cloud


A "504 Gateway Time-out" error page is seen when trying to access the accessing business database in Appian Cloud.

A loading icon spins continuously next to the database icon in the top left of the index page.

An HTTP 504 pink error box appears when loading the index page in of the database, or when trying to load the tables within the database where the loading icon continuously spins.


The most likely cause for this behavior is a long running query that is impacting the performance of other database-related operations.


Appian 18.1 and Later

Refer to KB-1530 to kill any processes that were initiated directly from the database interface (ie., queries that were not run from inside the Appian environment itself).

Appian 17.4 and Earlier

Create a case with Appian Support to investigate the potential offending long running query.
