KB-1504 Overview of VPN setup process in Appian Cloud

Purpose

The purpose of this article is to give a high-level overview of the VPN setup process in Appian Cloud. Note that connecting to resources in your self-managed network or in your private cloud is not available for customers subscribed to Basic Support.

Instructions

Appian has released self service VPN functionality so that customers can manage VPN connections independently of Appian Support. To determine if Self Service VPN can be used for your use case, review the documentation. If you are unable to use the self service functionality, proceed with the steps below.

  1. Customer: Create a support case and submit the a filled out version of the VPN worksheet. All sections highlighted in yellow MUST be filled out.
  2. Appian: Review the worksheet and populate values for the Appian Cloud site’s VPN gateway IP address and the private network address space. Upload the updated worksheet to the case.
  3. Appian + Customer: Communicate the PSK securely through a WebEx. (At this point all information needed to establish a VPN tunnel has been communicated.)
  4. Appian + Customer: Configure the VPN endpoints.
  5. Customer: Provide Appian with a 2–4 hour window to restart the Appian Cloud site to persist the configuration changes.
  6. Appian + Customer: Troubleshoot the connection.
