Joint Military Symbology Generator

Overview

Every military unit within the US Department of Defense (DOD) is tracked using the joint military symbology standard MIL-STD-2525D. Army Unit Catalog systems has its own associated symbol that depicts the functionality of that unit. These symbols are currently created inefficiently by hand, using PowerPoint and Microsoft Paint. The military standards for unit symbol generation, MIL-STD-2525C or MIL-STD-2525D, provide a formulaic way to create new military unit symbols based on an alpha-numeric code called the Symbol Identification Code (SIDC). There are tens of thousands of units in military systems, and they all need unit symbols, of which the current creation uses much of the military's resources. A way to easily generate these symbols from within military systems is a much needed and valued functionality.

The standards are defined in this 800-page document but now you can just embed it in your Appian Application and drive it using data.

Key Features & Functionality

Military Unit Symbol Generator allows users to generate custom symbols for military units from entirely within Appian without having to leave the platform. If the Symbol Identification Codes (SIDC’s) are known, it allows for automating the process of creating military unit symbols by using data like the SIDC’s as inputs.
