Overview
End-users will have the ability to edit office documents from an Appian interface and store a new version of the document in Appian after saving the document.
Key Features & Functionality
You can use the Web Application Open Platform Interface (WOPI) protocol to integrate Office for the web with your application. The WOPI protocol enables Office for the web to access and change files that are stored in your Appian instance.
To integrate your Appian application with Office for the web, you need to have the following:
The sample application included in the download package showcases how this plug-in can be used. The function getembeddedofficeurl() can be used to generate a url which can be used in the Web Content Field.
The sample application also includes the following API's which are needed to embed office into an Appian application:
Hi Aby, I just submitted a new version where all the missing dependencies are gone. This will become available soon.
Hi Aby,
I thought I checked all dependencies. Will check this again. But you should be able to import the app and ignore the problems. Only the site won’t be imported, but you can still use the interfaces and API’s
Hi Edilberto,
The plugin and the example app will act as an WOPI host and could connect to any WOPI client if this client allows the connection.
Hi Mark,
One question, this plugin makes an Appian instance a WOPI Server ?
Then, we could use any WOPI Client in our Web Content component (those Clients that can be embedded) to edit documents that are saved in Appian ?
thanks in advanced
Thanks for your response.
I've been trying to import the Example App. I receive the following problems (missing precedents - see below) and a warning saying that the plugin version is different in my environment however I have re-deployed the plugin from the admin console several times and it still shows the version as 1.1 (in my env) while the latest seems to be 1.1.1.
I want to try to connect to office 365. This functionality seems very useful!
Thank you
Thanks Aby for this feedback, I will update the instructions. Any other feedback?
Actually, all of these plugins are required based on the Inspect of the app to import
Apparently, the Create Document Version plugin is also required. This is not specified in the instructions.
It should work, but didn’t tested it. Since I don’t have access to an O365 instance. You’ll need to let MS support allow your Appian instance to connect to your O365 instance.
