When a new user is created, Appian takes their email ID as the username. Should the email ID be in lowercase for it to work correctly. We have a user who was deactivated (used the application before without any issues) and now we are reactivating him back. Details below:
Name: Stuart Whitby
Username in Appian: Stuart.Whitby@aberdeen-asset.com
Email on our HR database: stuart.whitby@aberdeen.com
But even though we have reactivated the user in appian designer, the user is not able to login into the application.
Could you help?

As previously suggested, this looks like a conflict with an external authentication system. It is worth checking that the user is also reactivated or a member of the appropriate user groups in whatever external system you authenticate with.
