401 Error When Logging In on New Installation

The Initial login username and password specified in Appian documentation are
Username: Administrator
password: admin.

For some reason I am getting a 401 Unauthorized error when I use that id/password combination. Any ideas why that would be happening?

We have recently cloned a server and receiving this same issue.

Can anyone help me out on this , We are also facing same issue after Upgrading from 17.4 To 18.1.

Follow the above link and also follow the rules for creating a User. Deploy the configuration and start the server.

Do let me know , what happens. We will try to come up with a resolution.

create a new user and password in the password.properties file... Then redeploy your server. After re deployment is complete, delete the password.properties file. You should now be able to log in.

- Which appian version you have installed?

If you are using recent versions of appian post 17.1 you will need to create new user using deployment of password.properties file.
for older versions default Administrator password is admin.


- I can see you are using server on http, Can you try following this KB?

remove the tags below from this file.
<APPIAN_HOME>\ear\suite.ear\web.war\WEB-INF\web.xml

Also if you have login credentials in case you are using prior 17.1 ( Administrator | admin ) try to login and check server.log, If nothing logs in server.log after login attempt, You will need to remove the tags suggested.
