Administration
Recommendations for administrator reporting on running process instances?

The /designer interface "Reports" tab has been removed in newer versions of Appian. This used to be a very quick and easy way for an administrator to create on-the-fly reports on active process instances, filter by different variables and statuses, and so forth. Is there a recommended replacement for this functionality that doesn't require building a SAIL interface?
I know that you can still customize the reports on the Processes tab to get at the data, but this is much less flexible, and it isn't a good idea to save over these base-product reports.

Hi Jasonr411, you can goto /design view, under your application, you can select "Process Report" under "New".

Thanks. The main problem with this method of creating a process report, is it means creating a new object directly in Production. In the past, you could use the built-in reports and edit them without saving. However, you can probably do the same from the new designer if you search for one of those reports and click through into it.

Since the Reports tab was deprecated, we do exactly what you describe in your most recent comment. It's not without risk though, particularly in production; we try to use the filters on the reports rather than editing as it's all to easy to save and overwrite without thinking.

In the legacy designer interface, if you go through the Documents tab and navigate to the Process Reports folder (Default Community > System Knowledge Center > System Reports > Process Reports) and click the "view" link next to any of the system reports, the report will appear and the left-side navigation that is standard to the legacy reports tab will be displayed as well.

Given all these work-arounds to still use legacy designer process reports, why hide that tab in the first place?
