Assuming you are seeing this when using the function - executestoredprocedure ?? The recommendation is to perform updates in a Process Model using the Smart Service instead.

Yes that correct. it is recommended to not use the execute store procedure function for any DML query . for such scenario wither go with the write to data store or Execute Store Procedure Smart service. However I testes executestoreprocedure function with DML query(Database was MySQL) it was working fine. Also it seems that some people has observed an issue using execute store procedure function for DML statement in MS SQL server

Although updates may work via the function I do not think you ought to use it - it not guaranteed to always work and should that function stop working following an upgrade of Appian or the Stored Proc plug in then you'd have a lot of refactoring to do and inconvenience to your customers. Personally I'd recommend following best practice for Cloud MySQL.
